Dennis GaborIn information thermodynamics, Dennis Gabor (1900-1979) was a Hungarian electrical engineer and physicist noted for his 1964 disproof of Maxwell’s demon (based on his 1951 lecture) in which he argues, similar to Leon Brillouin (1951), that the use of light by the demon, in attempting to gain information about the speeds of the particles, acts to dissipate energy in accordance with the second law. [1] In Gabor’s proof, he constructed a model showing that the demon can exist according to classical physics, but not according to quantum mechanics. [2] Gabor discusses entropy a bit in his 1972 book The Mature Society. [3]
